No I don't think the south if full of Bubbas. What I think is that there were enough bubbas in the south to tip the vote for the dixiecrats.

Say, suppose the non-bubbas are 80% of the population which are more or less equally divided between republicans and democrats (varying over the years depending on candidate, state of the economy, etc.). So we have 35-45% for democrats, 35-45% for republicans and 20% of bubbas voting solidly for dixiecrats (in the past) or for conservative republicans (nowadays). Final tally: pro-bubba candidate 55-65% of the vote, non-bubba candidate 35-45% of the vote. That is why the dixiecrats won every time, and that is why the south is turning republican.
