Well, I dont know about all of that, but I grew up in the South and was educated through HS in the South. We were taught in school that the "War between the States" (it was never called the Civil War in the South in those days) was instigated cause the South was an Agrarian economy which bought more of its goods from England and shipped most of its cotton to England while the North was a growing manufacturing economy and it irritated them to no end that the South wasnt dealing with the North with its raw materials and purchasing the Norths finished goods, mainly cause the Norths goods were inferior to Englands and the cost was higher. The average Northerner didnt have a "thing" against slavery as much as it could not use the slaves (southern production was labor intensive and needed what they THOUGHT was cheap labor to compete. (turned out they learned AFTER the War that Slave labor wasnt nearly so cheap as exploiting the poor blacks (which of course the North did all along white or black). If you all recall Lincoln didnt "free the slaves" until well into the War when it looked as though ENGLAND may come in on the side of the South which likely would have insured the Souths victory and he did that to keep England out of the War as England WAS against slavery far more so then the USA NORTH.
As to the BS about living with "Niggers" thats all it is for the most part. I grew up in the Segregated South YET I had a black nanny, she lived with us, she slept in our home and she ate with us. We treated her no different then any other family member. We had no problem with that, it was those DAMN YANKEES that had all the racial hangups. Now thats the REAL SOUTH not the stories you read in the liberal press. jdn
