The SA bombing surely indicates that the war on terrorism, even though it is a long one, has made no headway whatsoever. IMHO

Oh.. I'm not so sure about that. If anything, I believe that the militants have been forced to expedite their agenda before they were actually ready. They have been "smoked out" and recognize they no longer have the luxury of biding their time until they have created a greater support base.

The fact that this attack in Riyadh effectively aimed at a "non-critical" target is indicative that they are feeling the pressure. But it might work to the Saudi Royal's advantage if they continue to press the militants in their society, and diminish the power of the clerics/royals who are backing the fanatics.

One thing is obvious.. The Saudi government NOW recognizes that Al-Qaeda is not something they can just "pay off" and make deals with. They are in a fight for political survival and legitimacy. And that works to the advantage of the US effort to contain Wahhabism and Salafism throughou the Muslim world.
