Maybe we need some of the Islamic laws to control some of our sex offenders. I was reading about a 20 year old fellow who was sentenced to death for sexually molesting three young boys.

You carry out a few of these sentences and I think the appetite of the homosexuals for young boys would rapidly disappear.

I don't think homosexuals who perform their usual deviant behavior against young boys should be allowed to wait for judgement day.

if the South would have been comfortable with maintaining their status quo

Maintaining the status quo has never been an option throughout history. Times change. The Civil War began when the minority of southerners who enjoyed the status quo decided to take drastic action. Had it not been secession, it is likely it would have been another drastic action. The north was not happy with the status quo, but it was happy with the trends. History is chaotic and therefore unpredictable, but the prior events seemed to lurch from one desparate compromise to another until none were satisfied with the results.
