remember hearing about that flack when Israel wanted to join, but would only have been allowed under humiliating conditions. Yes, the IIRC operates under a red cross and a red crescent, but won't allow Mogen David Adom to join because it operates under a red Star of David. The head of IIRC said at one meeting, "if we allow a star, then we would have to allow a swastika too", which was taken very badly in certain quarters, as you may imagine.
