You are deliberately going to unreasonable extremes in your presentation of it, using intentionally provocative language like pregnancy lottery and the like.

I have not done the equivalent to your position. I have not pushed it to the limits by saying that it is (which it is) an invitation to free love, have sex all day every day and don't worry about a thing because if you happen to create a human being by accident, don't worry, we'll murder it for you and save you any trouble of having to take any responsibility for your actions or for the lives you have chosen to create and destroy.

Although you claim you believe in people accepting responsibility, in fact your position is one of total lack of any responsibility for behaviors. Eat, drink, and be merry, have sex morning, noon, and night, and don't give a monent's thought to taking any responsibilty for your actions.

I know that's not how you would put your position. But if you don't want hyperbole used about yours, don't use hyperbole about mine.

I'm talking about early abortion as a fall back to birth control.

Are you really?

Are you willing to back that up by taking the position that a couple that engages in sexual activity without using any birth control isn't entitled to an abortion?

If not, then you're really not taking the position of abortion as a fall back, but are accepting abortion as a primary means of birth control. Please choose.

Presumably, the matter would have been considered and tentatively determined prior to sexual activity.

Oh, yeah.

Your expectations for the behavior of teenagers is every bit as unrealistic as you claim mine is. More so, actually. It's easier to make a decision to abstain totally, I think, since that can be made in a calm and rational manner, than to wait until the sixth beer has been consumed and things are hot and heavy and then say "oh, by the way, do we have birth control going here, and what are we going to do if I get pregnant, we need to discuss and resolve those issues before you go any further." Yeah, right. Like that's going to happen.

Who cares if it could be used to justify infanticide? The main point is we do NOT use it to justify that, because it is simple to make a distinction between the born and the unborn. It doesn't matter if it's just a distinction for convenience- because for the already born, the main point is that it IS convenient not to run around killing each other. Killing the already born is problematic for all of us; killing the unborn is only problematic for the unborn, and for those who have beliefs about not killing the unborn; not allowing people to kill the unborn presents huge problems for society, but makes the unborn (perhaps?_ and people who are anti-abortion happy- on balance it seems perfectly logical to me to leave things the way they are- saving the already born from the pesky slippery slope of trying to decide which already born people it is ok to kill (and the death penalty is a problem here, imo), and we also allow anti-abortion people to have as many babies as they want, they simply can't go around saving other people's unborn babies- a totally reasonable compromise- except for the belief motivated, who need it 100% their own way- and they should be unhappy, after all, it is good for them to suffer- I believe it makes them more holy :-)
