Ted, there is a long and vibrant history to this notion that those who disagree with our gov't are anti American and traitorous.

There's a big difference between calling for an eight-hour work day and calling for "a million Mogadishus."

What's to get around? If you agree to keep your campaign expenses down to $45 million, the gov't will give you nearly $20 million more. Its a joke..........it costs a minimum of $65 million to run for president and we say we're a democracy.

I don't know how well you followed campaign finance reform, but the idea behind it was to "get the money out of politics." You know, the evil special interest groups who are well-financed, but don't necessarily represent the majority opinion.

Would George Soros be considered a "special interest"? I guess that all depends on whether you agree with his views or not.

If much less was spent then in many ways we would be less of a democracy communicating to tens of millions of voters cost money. It costs even more if your trying to unseat an entrenched incumbent. Limit spending or limit the available money and the incumbents have it too easy. They have a high reelection rate as it is but if people can't raise and spend enough to get their message out then in most cases the incumbent will be a lock.
