"The only significant gun owners in my city that are stopping crime are the police"

How do you know? When individuals protect themselves it is not reported. But you are for the criminals, so that does not matter.

...Police stop crime after the fact. Only would be victims can stop it beforehand. TP owns guns. He'd protect himself. He'd just rather his neighbors were unarmed.

Are you maintaining that there is a large number of people who are getting attacked in alleys, shoot it out, and then don't mention the attempted crime to any law enforcement? That is more dangerous than I thought.

You need to look at Dr. Gary Kleck's study at the University of Florida. His study and other studies, completely independant of the NRA consistently show over 2 million people a year using guns in one way or another to defend themselves. Courts have rulled the police only have to provide collective protection and do not have to show up to protect you. The police didn't protect people killed and injured by rioters in the LA riots in the early 1990s for example.
