In Matthew Chapter 12, Christ is saying that blasphemy of the spirit of God shall not be pardoned in this “age” , (We are in the present wicked age; see Galations 1:4) nor in the “age to come” .(The next age is the thousand year reign of Christ; see Revelation 20:3). The age after the millennial reign is the new heaven and earth. See Revelation 22:5 He certainly isn’t saying it will never be forgiven. The KJV needs some retranslating when it comes to the greek word aion. Aion in the KJV is translated age, world, ever, eternal, everlasting, forever, saints and a couple of others I can’t think of right now. Here is the verse properly translated: 31 "Therefore I am saying to you, Every sin and blasphemy shall be pardoned men, yet the blasphemy of the spirit shall not be pardoned. 32 And whosoever may be saying a word against the Son of Mankind, it will be pardoned him, yet whoever may be saying aught against the holy spirit, it shall not be pardoned him, neither in this eon, nor in that which is impending . Greek "aions" are not worlds or eternities, they are measurable amounts of time or a fixed period or interval(see Strong's contrast with chronos #5550) Christ also, according to the KJV is said to reign “forever and ever”;see Rev. 11:15 and His throne is “for ever and ever”;see Hebrews 1:8. It also says that His reign will end. 1 Corinthians 15:25 For He must reign ”until He has put all enemies under His feet. 26: The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. If you are saying that Christ will reign forever, you are also saying He will never defeat all enemies. 1 John 3:8 finishes with "for this was the Son of God made manifest: that He might destroy the works of the devil, (ie: translated elsewhere: to annull the acts of the adversary) There was a time before God made the aions or eons or ages. (1 Corinthians 2:7) Then God made the aions/ages/eons (Hebrews 1:2 There have been aions/ages/eons in the past (Collosians 1:26) We are in the present wicked aion/age/eon. (Galations 1:4) satan is the god of this aion/age/eon. (2 Corinthians 4:4)Ages First age: "Before the disruption of the world" Outside the camp" Gen 1:2, Heb 1:2 Second age: From Adam to Noah "The Camp" Gen 1:9 Third age: The present wicked age (Christ crucified during this age) "The Court" Galations 1:4 Fourth age: 1000 year reign of Christ. Satan bound. "The Holy Place" Revelation 11:14,15 Fifth age: "The Holy of Holies" God Himself dwells with man in the new heaven and earth. Christ reigns for this age as well. (Note: The fourth and fifth aions/ages/eons are the KJV's "forever and ever". Properly translated = the aions of the aions. After this the ages end. Hebrews 9:26. Christ will defeat the final enemy to end the ages (1 Corinthians 15:24-28). Then Christ will subject Himself to God the Father. God will be all in all for eternity. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit will be forgiven after "the age to come", which is the Millenial reign of Jesus Christ. All enemies, including stubborn wills, will become subject to Christ. Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father.(Phillipians 2:10) and the entire creation is seen acclaiming the name of Christ. (Revelation 5:13) Have a great weekend brent! alan w
