<that "winning strategy" you're referring to...>

Summarized here, so I don't have to repost it every time someone equates "not killing" with "not doing anything":

1. provide a good example
2. a purely defensive military posture
3. don't get on the wrong side of nationalist wars
4. a global Marshall Plan and HeartsAndMinds campaign.

As I see it, the Republicans are very sure of themselves (except in leaked memos), and dead wrong.

The Democrats, on the other hand, are confused, both in public and private. On the one hand, most of them are now saying we shouldn't have gotten into Iraq, and that the President's methods are failing. But none of the front-runners is advocating pulling out. They voted for the war authorization before Regime Change, and they voted for all the spending the President has requested, and none of them are admitting we don't have a chance in hell of accomplishing any of the President's goals in Iraq.

The only thing to be said in the Democrat's favor, is that their egos are less invested in this occupation, so they will find it easier to CutAndRun.

But even the President is now doing CutAndRun. He's doing it slowly, hoping nobody will notice. Troop strength is being drawn down. Our Army is withdrawing under fire, having never secured the ground. The fantasy of Iraqization is going to be as illusory as the fantasy of Turkish and Indian and Pakistani soldiers bailing us out. This meets the military definition of defeat.

There will be a vast effort to paint this pig, but it still stinks and goes "oink".
