In an article today I read about the suggestion that the Democrats should abandon the southern states in the 2004 election.

I find it amusing that of all people, the southern residents should appreciate someone who would protect the envirnoment, provide them medical care, assist in job creation...instead they prefer to promote bigotry, die young, be unemployed...and have a party that tells them that they care about them.

Amazing that in light of the data in today's USA Today that reveals that the following states represent the #46, #47, #48, #49 and 5Oth on the rankings of the UNHEALTHIEST states to live...South Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, Lousiana, and MISSISSIPPI.

Ranked #1, #2,#3, #4, #5...Minnesota, New Hampshire, Utah, Vermont, Massachusetts.

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

re: I think that may be a selective remembering of history.
True, Carter wanted to keep regional pressure on the Iranians.
But he didn't mount the crusade against the Soviet 'Evil Empire'...

not that I disagree <gggg> but that was Carters crusade against "Soviet 'Evil Empire'" and it was Carter who supplied mujehadins with the best weapons money can buy.

It is hard to imagine how that would be a pressure on Iran since mujehadins supported Iran
