It is said that dictators surround themselves with Yes-men... indeed, some articles I read describing people's meetings with Saddam show that he was the one to do all the talking, and his guests - all the nodding. Lack of real feedback can get one disoriented, like in case of Stalin, who for some time considered Hitler a kindred soul. (Stalin was right, it's just that their interests didn't fit together).

Speaking of Yes-men... It is easy to deny them respect... but how many people do you know who stood in front of a man who could destroy them, their families and friends - just because of a fleeting thought - or an impulse.
