Where is the joke?

As described by Aristotle in Nichomachean Ethics, there are norms of behavior and spheres of action. Humor arises when the norm is violated by an excess or deficiency of response. In this joke a provocative assertion is made to the hypothetical President in the statement Many say the only reason why you would be elected for President is due to the enormous power and influence of your father. The normative behavior for a consertative in the face of a provocation is a short mean attack (like the ones which always follow my joke postings here).

The expectation for this joke then is for Bush to have retorted with an excess of denial of his father's power (which would probably setup a punchline confirming the original provocation), or an excess of willingness to use that power against the provacature thereby creating a "tables turned" punchline.

Instead, in this instance,It doesn't matter how powerful the man is. He can only vote once!" Bush gives an answer which is completely devoid of relationship to the provocation showing that he does not understand the basis of power (which is after all, the essential characteristic of a world leader). That makes the punchline a variation on the "blonde specialist" joke with a special tie to Bush's lack of preparation for the position he holds.

Am I missing something?
No, not at all.

How many neocons does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Hundreds of them, but first they have to find the lightbulb.

Why did the neocon cross the road? Trust him. He has "secret evidence."

No, you're not. TigerPaw, on the other hand, is missing both a sense of humor and the ability to grasp reality. He likes to pollute this thread with his homespun "humorous" political rhetoric, with ever more profound examples of his political ignorance and lack of humor.

I often laugh. At him, not with him.
