Suma,

I didn't mean to come across as an expert on Dell monitors. But I have read good things about their LCD monitors. The "Dell" I have is actually a Planar that I bought new on eBay. According to the sellers that were offering them at the time, it was from a big shipment that was supposed to go to Dell, but the monitors had the wrong model number on them. Some were selling them as Planar, others as Dell. There was some reference to Dell in the paperwork that came with it.

When I buy a monitor, I search with Google and include the word "review" and the model number, or name and type, or whatever gets me some hits, and try to find some reviews on it. I've eliminated a few I was interested in this way. I especially pay attention to reviews that include objective test results. If there are lots of personal reviews, I look at the aggregate, and don't pay much attention to one person's lemon.

I've never had a laptop, so I can't really comment, but again, I've heard good things about Dell laptop displays as well. Check out the category in PriceWatch to get a good idea on price.

pricewatch.com Click on monitors, then LCD 17in

I hope you find a good one.
