I am against corporate welfare also. But if someone drives a Toyota Prius, everyone else also benefits. For example it results in cleaner air for everyone to breath and less dependence on foreign oil, also less military spending to secure foreign oil thus less taxes for the tax payer. If the government could quantify the external benefits of people driving Prius, then there should be that much subsidy in price of the Prius.
