I agree. I recognized that my statement was questionably worded as soon as I posted it, but the bell on my microwave called me away.

I should have said that Japan "is" smart to recognize that they don't have enough land to support a bazillion people. The reason I didn't say that in the first place is that I don't know enough about their culture to be sure that the population is a result of recognition of limits or other factors, which would have been implied by the "is" version. Which is why I said "would be." Didn't mean to suggest by "would be" that they aren't. If that makes any more sense... <g>
