Well, it frightens me that there are instances in other eras as well. Thank god our democratic traditions were strong enough to overcome these assults. McArthur certainly had a dictatorial streak, wanted to fight red China and turn WW2 into WW3, that was checked by the democratic process. I'm just afraid General Franks might represent the thinking that's going on behind closed doors in Washington these days. He just let the cat out of the bag in an interview. I hope I'm wrong and he's just another yahoo spouting off at the mouth.
