Things are different today, Mike! 40 years ago, our salaries weren't really very high (grad aero engineer from one of the 3 best schools in the country was to make the grand total of 10K per year!!!!!)

And spouse didn't work..babies coming... lots of med bills, loans to repay, rented housing for a few years, only had 1 TV, 1 telephone, 1 car, not a whole house of gourmet furniture yet...etc.

We were MUCH different than the new 25-40 somethings are today. There was no good fairy to toss us gifts, so we worked...and worked... And honestly, believe we and the kids are better off for it.

You guys dont get it

I'm not sure, then, what the point is you're trying to get across. That it's expensive to live well and raise kids? I get that. So what's your point?

I read what I just wrote. That's a friendly question, in case it doesn't come across that way. <g>

It's not clear what, if anything, it is that you want done about it. Impose wage controls on Walmart to get this family up over 100K?
