you know what your problem is?
You are too US-CENTRIC.

The world wants off wintel. Not so much off Intel as much as Microsoft. So now Intel has to compete on its own merits without the Msft and Dell crutch in the emerging markets where the growth is.

AMD desktop chips are half the price of intel for same performance. AMD is the high end leader... where is intel? They have centrino but that is all.

At least microsoft is responding to the threat and not laying down and playing dead like IBM did 10 years ago. There is speculation that msft is funding scox.

room,

there is more to sellling fish and chips than performance...

Now you have me wondering. So what is it that you are saying? What do you like, what is good, what is important, where do you invest (as opposed to all the things that are bad and not worth investing money in).

Clearly, performance is not everything, but it is a difference between headwind and tailwind. Another thing is sustainability. Intel is where it is because of sustained performance advantage (over the years) of its products, in addition to other variables such as mass market acceptance of x86 "standard").

What are you talking about? Is it a commodity market or isn't it? I thought you claimed it was.
