Boykins' remarks were aimed at the terrorists, America's enemies, not at Muslims in general. Excuse me, but how can you possibly claim that this remark is not directed at Muslims in general: I knew that my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God, and his was an idol. I expect that kind of infantile drivel from Osama and his people; in fact that quote sounds exactly like something Osama would say. I expect better from our side. You have disapproved all along of any remarks that call the terrorists "evil" - as simplistic and crusading. I have pointed out that preaching absolute morality while practicing situational morality leaves one in an unnecessarily vulnerable moral position, and should be avoided. It's never wise to proclaim a standard that you aren't willing to follow.

Your logic sounds good, but I wonder how sound it is. A group of - let's call them squatters - settles an area which was, in practical terms, a desert. They manage to receive international recognition for their new country. They survive several wars against overwhelmingly larger neighbors. Almost 60 years later, after they created an advanced democratic nation - and nothing short of an economic miracle - some still expect it to dissolve and to go away. Maybe today, on this Thanksgiving Day, we should seriously discuss returning America to the indigenous tribes? Or, Russia - why shouldn't they reverse the annexation of Siberia, so that they could come into compliance with the current day's sensitivities? How much water under the bridge - and how many more wars - should it take to join Egypt - or Prince Abdullah - and to recognize Israel? For, for as long as so many thoughtful people question their right to exist, why shouldn't Arafat?
