Hi Larry, unfortunately my speaker system is on the fritz right now so I can't listen to the report. However, I suspect it's snippets of the Generals speech, interlaced with NBC commentary.

This issue was first brought to light and received world-wide attention because the reporter in question stated the General had said he was on a "Jihad" against muslims, Or words to that effect. The writer of the original article has since admitted he misquoted the General and that he never used the word jihad in any of his church speeches. Like most media events though, this made up quote got the ball-rolling so to speak, and now NBC and the LA Times are going after different words he may or may not have used, without reporting the full context of how those words were chosen.

When the LA Times writer originally admitted his mistake regarding the Jihad quote, he told Hugh Hewitt on the radio that he would make the full transcripts of the tapes available. He has since renigged on that promise, even after repeatedly querries.

From my point of view, I think it stinks to attack a real American special forces hero this way. Yellow journalism at its finest if you ask me.

Lastly, I don't know why we are talking about this religious matter on the foreign affairs thread. The only thing I can figure is it points to christianity in a negative way, and that's become the chic thing to do these days. I would only say if people think it appropriate to snide-fully spit on people with deep seated spiritual beliefs on a regular basis here, they should expect a visit from someone from the God thread at some point in the future willing to defend those remarks.

And I don't think most of us want that.

Larry, I can't get sound either. Does NBC have the who 2 years of tapes that Arkin said he taped. Have these been altered in any way?

The reason that this is even under FA is that by now, Arkins charges have gone around the world, and again, have attempted to pursue a "trial by media"...
