1X benefits, if there are any, accrue to the carrier only. Clients don't know the difference in air interfaces and likely never will ... 1x is no more 3g than GPRS.

The carrier capacity benefits you tout would be important if there were any new potential customers for 1x - there aren't any - cdma has hit the wall on addressable market.

The only thing that will compel a major investment in new next generation networks are enticing applications. 3g failed to deliver any excitement, and they did so well behind schedule -G; that's why it will die on the vine and never see the light of day. Ericsson is the bellwether of CDMA infrastructure - enough said. No wonder operators are grasping at WiFi; they're that desperate! -VBG

Most carriers are now cutting capex to try and survive and they await a better grid of services to be offered, at much lower costs. (outrageous royalties do factor in!)

In your world, 2g and a Blackberry are good enough. Maybe you're right?

You mean that the laws of physics apply - yes - unlike the snake oil salesmen from San Diego, W-OFDM is based on real world tests (ask Motorola!) not slideware claims.

As for Nextel doing demos, honestly, if they're well into trials do you think a demo is appropriate? Why tip their hand to competitors when they'll be seeding their network with APs shortly. I wonder how the financial press will interpret that, given cdma devotees are convinced there is no other path for Nextel - LMAO !!!!
