Gore never said he invented the internet. That was a right-wing smear. What he said was absolutely true, that while in congress he was instrumental in creating the internet. Indeed he was. It was called the "Information Superhighway" then and could not have been created without Gore pushing for government support of it. The concept for the internet was created at the Pentagon years before, but it would not exist today as we know it without Gore.
