Dems didn't know what hit them with the energy ripoffs until the damage had been done. You are being way too general. You get my hackles up when you tell me I'm wrong, and then simply spout generic drivel on the page. The coverage of the California Energy Crisis here on SI began on January 15, 2001.Message 15186520 Clearly the elected Democrats in California were well aware that there was a problem before that date. As you will recall, the initial utility to be hit by the power manipulators was SDG&E which they attacked in the summer of 2000. So the fact that the game was afoot was a well known situation months before the 2000 election. Whether or not Democratic voters across the country paid any attention is a different matter entirely. As we well know, most Democratic voters haven't a clue who is running for President in 2004, except for George Bush. So I reject your assertion as it relates to the Democratic leadership. But I do accept that the average voter was clueless. **** Re: In case you don't know, the oil business doesn't have to tell the federal government anything it doesn't want to tell them. Again, your comment lacks specificity. Clearly the oil companies file federal tax returns and they make SEC filings. They do tell the government quite a lot. Could you be more forthcoming as to what information they are, by law or by regulation, specifically exempted from disclosing that would differ from other industries? ********* Re: When have you ever seen an oil executive go to jail for gouging? Well, the prosecutors got really, really close in the early 1920s with the Teapot Dome scandal. But the oilmen slipped the noose..... *********** So...... have you conceded that you were wrong about the Saudis and the high oil prices in October, 2000? <gg>
