Sure, I agree with all of the above. But I believe that any reasonable calculation (if indeed one bothers to perform the calculation) indicates that the level of compensation here is far in excess of what is needed to attract and retain good people.

Like I said, its the same old same old. This is not a new story, and the numbers speak for themselves. The transfer of equity from shareholders to management has been egregious. Some sense of proportion is called for. This is a public company, after all.

I'm long (very long) this stock, and have been for years. Likewise I've been bitching about excessive options compensation for years. One of these days I'll sell the stock. Meanwhile we can only hope that the company continues to perform well enough that the market rewards the shareholders over and above the weight of the options. But this isn't the same company that it was ten years ago. The law of big numbers comes into effect, and we cannot expect the market to overlook some of the excesses that it has overlooked in the past.
