I support cost/benefit analysis, which means that I do not automatically think that the environmental lobby is right. I am, however, not current on particular issues, and therefore cannot usefully offer an opinion on many specific controversies. I will say that if we lived comfortably with standards from a decade ago, I would have to be shown why it was necessary to make them more stringent, and to be assured it was not too costly. One of the difficulties the environmental lobby has is that we are generally gaining in longevity and overall health, which suggests that most pollution is under control........
