The problem is that this is the number one issue facing professional families...

So what is the incentive for any new college graduate to go into technology.... I can't think of one. Apply this situation to virtually every white collar desk job.

That shows what a very small, myopic world you live in, LT. Take a vacation. Get some perspective. I hear Bombay is beautiful in December. wunderground.com

That's interesting. My brother has a hi tech company in CO and he can not find enough EE's to hire. Said he has increased his starting salaries 25% this year in order to hire anyone. He is hiring more and paying more then he was during the 99 time frame. And he is being cherry picked by other tech companies trying to lure his workers away.

I wonder why the prospects are so grim where you are?

Terrible thing, that personal responsibility stuff. Worse
even is the thought of being competitive. Heaven forbid we
strive for, then achieve excellence & demand appropriate,
merit based compensation.

Much better to elect a government that will protect the
status quo (at ever increasing income & benefits) against
fair competition.

Ya! That's the ticket!

Lizzie,

Three years ago, the tech sector was doing a Wile E. Coyote (running in thin air, after running off a cliff). The Stock Market bubble was crashing, Y2K spending was over, factory orders were dropping, the Fed was tightening (to suck up the liquidity they placed in the economy to cushion possible Y2K problems), CA was going thru power shortages (disrupting several companies and institutions), and manufacturers were beginning to layoff factory workers. Yet, Tech Start ups still had VC and IPO money, so many continued to spend according their business plans - despite the knowledge that a recession was almost surely coming.

re:"Anyway Bush will go down on this issue I suspect. People are much worse off than just 3 years ago."
