TV news is like air pollution:

I would think that it is like a breath of fresh air compared to what you get on Manila TV.

Steven, I wanted to go back and comment on this post, because I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you.

First of all, I've been living in Italy now for 6 months and feel somewhat out of touch with the American media. I do have satellite T.V. but with only limited American stations. And like you I don't watch T.V. very often. So, I can sense, over time, I will have a degradation of my ability to comment on this issue.

As I understand it, you've been living in the Philippines for nearly 25 years and only occasionally see American television. Therefore, I'm wondering how you can objectively come to a conclusion about bias in the media?

Academics often answer the bias issue with one of those pat answers "if you're a liberal you see this, if you're a conservative you see that". However, in nearly every study conducted over many years, liberal bias has been shown to exist in mainstream television.

The definition issues is red-herring. Sure, we can argue about right, left, liberal, conservative and so forth. But these terms do means something, especially on the outer edges. However, there is one bias you simply cannot ignore and that is Democrat vs Republican bias.

The mainstream media is very liberal and very pro-Democrat. It's not just a little, in many cases it's rather extreme. This extreme bias, many believe, is responsible for the tremendous popularity of talk radio, and entire websites have been successfully run for years documenting this bias.

There is nothing comparable on the left documenting a conservative bias, or documenting a Republican bias. Ever wonder why? Do you believe if an equally conservative bias existed, liberals would not attempt to launch an equivalent website documenting the daily conservative slants to mainstream interviews, news and so forth?

I challenge you to read some of the daily news accounts on this website and consider this issue again. It wasn't a rare interview I pasted.
