The U.S. Labor Department said non-farm payrolls rose by 57,000, vs. expectations of payroll growth of 140,000. The unemployment rate dipped to 5.9 percent, a bit better than the expected 6 percent.

I have never heard an utterance of a number over 200K on tv or otherwise but perhaps I'm wrong. Do you suppose the big strike in CA may have queered this number downward also?

The real issue is that even the 50K the created jobs are low pay service jobs, and professional white collar are still walking out the door. Time for some leadership on this issue

Do you have a link for this or is this just your feeling?

Though overshadowed by the jobs data, the Commerce Department said factory orders rose a faster-than-expected 2.2 percent in October, providing further evidence of a turnaround in the manufacturing sector.

You might have to get used to the idea that the economy is improving.

Lizzie,

I believe that the 150K jobs "needed to break even", is not the same as 57K more people with jobs (including I believe, striking grocery workers as unemployed). Further, if you look more closely at the numbers, 138.6 million Americans were employed in November (the most ever, I believe). In October the number was 138.0 million.

Jobs report was 65% lower that hoped for, a disaster.
Bushies have flooded the country with cash (debt most of it) and gotten growth, but no jobs. That's because the corporations shipped their jobs overseas and are only hiring people at the top and bottom now. Bushies have done great thngs for the Indian economy. UYnfortunately, Bush isn't running for President of India. If so, he'd win by a landslide bringing a Clintonesque jobs performance.
