<<What about your salary and your standard of living?>> My salary -actually a contractor's fee- is at the mercy of the market.

There's business there is contract. There is not business? There is no contract. The whole world has changed from the world of huge companies that provided jobs for life. A company dominated the economy of a city or a whole region. A kind of "Deer Hunter" city.

The world where you learned a subject and would be enough for you to live your whole life based on that knowledge. You work 30 years. You get a mortgage for 30 years and you died not knowing what lied 400Km away from where you had your roots. This world is dead. Finito! Kapput! Gone!

It is a nice and brave new world. A generation of old folks -actually my age- are seeing that world crumble and want to turn the clock back.

Would be sensible for us to fight to have typewriters, black and white TVs, no cheap air travel, 70's vintage cars. No air-conditioning, no deep freezers, no computers, no new drugs, no modern dental treatment?
If we would throw away all the benefits of modern technology developed in the last 35 years, we could go back to that "Deer Hunter" life style. But there is no alternative. The clock moves only forward.

How comes a 51 years old dog like me learned how to stopped being afraid and love the globalized world? Would be because I have a better DNA that makes me more able to survive? Or was it because I have never been an apartment cat treated with provolone cheese that made me have the right stuff? erhaps the result of decades of not having 'rights for this' and 'rights for that' made me a survivor.

You guys on the developed world are at disadvantage vis a vis ourselves from the developing world. In a social Darwinism society we need to have a society to protect you or you will be in the endangered species list.
