except for the "income" angle, I am not sure I see the trusts as a safer bet than gold. If we really are in depletion mode on NG and getting ready to hit peak global production for oil -- gold will respond to those situations, just like NG and oil ...

I do agree about the USD / Nortel analogy -- and that is an explanation of why gold has not risen against other currencies -- folks view the dollar slide as a temporary adjustment ... for now.
