"We have in America the most perfect example of fascism since Hitler and Mussolini." That's baloni. Fascism is not, as Mussolini said, the combination of corporations and governments. It is the combination of a selected few corporations with a government plus suppression of all the rest of society.
Why do you think the US has habeas corpus? Why can you hire a lawyer and in 99.94% of the cases where you are innocent, you can defeat the state? It's because the capitalists, as a group want it that way. If cronies A,B,C and their agent dictator D, take over the country then capitalists E,F,G etc. will be arrested or squeezed into poverty. The capitalists do not fear the masses, they fear each other. That's why they have supported the safeguards of human rights. There is a world of difference between democratic capitalism and crony capitalism. The latter is closer to fascism.
In my frequent visits to the nearby US I cheerfully mouth my views on Bush & Co. Not only does nobody arrest me; I get universal agreement because evidently I don't meet fools.
I take it you are too young to have lived in the era of the fascists in Germany, Japan and Italy. Otherwise you wouldn't use those outrageous comparisons.

Ciao Raymond:

What a welcome to the thread!
This is one of the nicest remarks ever made about me, thank you. I blushed (I mean: bright red colour) and was flattered at the same time.
I do have an extremely vivid imagination (even by Italian standards) that is often mistaken for moody emotional swings in this hemisphere. Thank you for capturing the difference.
To paraphrase you: Superior intellects rooted in exceptionally insightful view of the world are extremely rare. How is that for embarrassing and flattering you? (Not that id my intent, I do mean it)

As for you assessment of the various sources of information re: international analysis, I tend to agree with pretty much all what you said. (Sorry Kerry)

Thanks for your views

Anna

(Sorry for being so late with my response: I am drowning in a sea of work)
