Keery not being able to differentiate himself from Dean just gives more proof as to how lame Kerry really is... Kerry blew a huge opportunity big time!

Kerry has done a very good job speaking to the nation.
Something went wrong though. It was a combination of things. It started about the time of his sudden cancer scare. He lost some momentum there and never really got it back. There is nothing wrong with Kerry's message though. And he's been very consistent unlike Dean who has waffled quite a bit. Of course ironically the war hurt Kerry, althugh he's been amongst Bush's fiercest critics about the way it was done.

Another reason is that NH voters always seem to go against expectations and establishment. Kerry was expected to win NH and maybe took it for granted a little bit so NH voters turned against him. Same thing happened in 2000 when Bush was expected to win. NH voters have always had a fierce independent streak. Dean is also tailore-made to be embraced by NH voters. He's practically a native. More so than Kerry.
