I wish I felt more certain about that. Maybe they're doing it just for internal consumption, but they are taking a very hard line on Taiwanese independecnce.

Why should the Taiwanese not be allowed to declare independence? They have had a de facto independent gov't since WW2 and, until the US sold them down the river, had a seat in the UN.
