Nadine,

Respectfully, comparing Ariel Sharon's brutal savagery and land grabbing criminality to Roosevelt's efforts opposing Hitler and Hitohito simply makes look you shrill, bordering on the insane.

There is no comparison. And you know it.

That rhetorical trial balloon was made of lead.

Try something a bit less far fetched. Please. If I wanted comedy, I'd go to the joke thread.

Re: Be serious. Israel is at war.

What is it with you right wing crackpots? There is no war in Palestine. There is no war on terror as Bush keeps disinforming Americans. There are terrorist incidents, sure. But you cannot fight a "war" against terror or against poorly armed populations. You can catch criminals. Or much more likely, you can kill a whole lot of innocent victims. But please spare us the histrionics. Israel is not at war. Israel is the victim of its own arrogance, disrespect for its neighbors, its rapaciousness and its enduring myths of superiority and willingness to engage in gross episode of self-deceit. That is a fair description of what must be the most neurotic nation on the planet. It's not a description of war.

<<the effect of using the international community to try to pressure Israel is already very cheering to the Palestinians>> And the effect of using the international community to try to pressure the Palestinians is already very cheering to the Israelis.

BTW, Bush, Carter, Clinton, Powell, Annan and Wolfowitz (hey there's a rainbow of actors on the world stage!)AND a third of Israeli citizens don't share the "hysteria" approach to the GA. But hey, what do they know?

The "hysteria" approach to the GA (the Swiss piece of paper destroys sovereignty, brings an end to the Israeli State, causes Jews to argue amongst themselves, gnashing of teeth, tearing of cloth) seems to emanate from Likudniks. Remember, it's a proposal for a voluntary resolution, there are no Swiss armies training for an occupation!

Truth of the matter is, no sitting government wants to see citizens rally toward a tangible expression of impatience with its policy and timing. As I see it, the hyperventilation we're hearing from that camp is driven by political fear, nothing more.
