That's the mistake many groups make - coast liberals, Beltway policy wonks, big chunks of academia, and others. I don't like it any more than you do but I grew up there and know how much they matter. You can't fight demographics - huge parts of the US population moved south and west. If you "ditch" middle America then we will have not just a few years but a few decades of Shrub clones in power. How did Clinton get elected twice? He knew how to talk to Bubba and make a connection. I'm 99% sure Clark can do that. I hope Dean can too if he becomes the nominee. I am equally sure the rest of the mongrels in the pack don't have a clue or lack the weight to matter yet (Edwards). Looking at this thread, consider how we finally reached a point where we could agree to disagree with folks who don't particularly share our views, yet still have good discussions. Gotta keep building common ground.
