Mr. Chen is smiling. More threats from all sides. He is right in the center of the attention. China is nervous as well as US. No country wants to start a war. However he gets reelected. Taiwan independence drama will continue.

Wonder if the administration would have been so conciliatory if the Iraq venture had not been so disastrous?

Maybe, just maybe, the administration is beginning to understand that provoking the outside world is not in the interests of this country.

I was surprised how strong the Bush statement was.
