Prophecy often has an immediate and a future fulfillment.

Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."

The events of 70 A.D. can perhaps, explain some of the judgment on that particular generation, however, the bible says so much more than that. All evil is going to be dealt with before the kingdom of God has it's ultimate manifestation which will include the physical return of Christ and the physical resurrection of all people; Some to eternal damnation and some to eternal glory.

Jesus was saying "this generation" of the generation that saw the signs He was describing, not the generation standing before Him at that moment. The signs that the end is near did not happen in the generation of that time. They are only happening now and it is this generation today that Jesus was referring to.
