SCM Microsystems Joins Trusted Computing Group

FREMONT, Calif., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SCM Microsystems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: SCMM; Prime Standard: SMY), a leading provider of solutions that open
the Digital World, today announced it has joined the Trusted Computing Group
(TCG), an open industry standards organization whose specifications help
vendors build products that let users protect critical data and information
across a variety of computing platforms.
Robert Schneider, chief executive officer of SCM Microsystems, explained
why this is a good fit for SCM and the TCG organization. "TCG's mission is
100% compatible with SCM's business interests. Our vision at SCM is to 'open
the Digital World.' To us this means securing access, identities and
transactions while protecting privacy, intellectual property and creative
rights across the full spectrum of digital communications and distribution
technologies. We are both a technology and market leader in security solutions
for information systems, the Internet and broadcasting.
"Present TCG standards provide an excellent framework for authenticating
PCs in a network. We are excited to work with other TCG members to extend
these standards to complementary devices that authenticate the user, such as
smart card and fingerprint readers. We also bring relevant experience and
expertise to TCG, shaped by a history of involvement in other open standards
organizations such as PCMCIA, SmartRight and Digital Video Broadcasting," said
Schneider.
"The work of the Trusted Computing Group is to develop, define and promote
hardware-enabled trusted computing and security technologies across multiple
platforms, peripherals and devices," said Jim Ward, president of TCG. "We
welcome SCM's participation in TCG and the experience the company brings in
developing end-user security devices."
