That's not the issue. The issue is would those moral traits be entirely outside a religious context or framework. Not, probably, a traditional religion, but a religion they had developed, as all religions have developed, either, depending on your beliefs, as a gift from God, or as a purely human construct. After all, if you believe the theory of evolution, we were all just amoebas once. Either amoebas have religious belief, or we obtained it at some point after emerging from the amoebal stage.

The idea that moral precepts are necessarily based on belief in a Supreme Ruler of the Universe is sheer rubbish. Morality has to do with the conduct of people. People (as individuals, families, and groups) have opinions of right and wrong conduct regardless of whether nor they are superstitious. It is true, though, that religious belief does not prevent one from developing a "moral" precept or two. One example is forcing (as in India) a Christian Priest from Australia to drink gas and then putting a match in his mouth. Another moral precept is to stab your sister until her blood no longer flows because she went outside in high heels and hugged a man. So it is certainly true that one MAY rely on superstitious imagination to create "moral" codes and standards. But it is not recommended. Have fun...
