Yes, I saw the debka report, and it makes sense. It is troubling because it suggests that he was not in control of the insurgency.

Fascinating analysis, and it does make a lot of sense.

We'll have to wait and see...

According to DEBKAfile analysts, these seven anomalies point to one conclusion: Saddam Hussein was not in hiding; he was a prisoner.

It's a plausible explanation, but far from the only one. For example, what if Saddam had to run to this hole a little while ago to evade capture, and the network that was supposed to move him elsewhere was detected, so Saddam got stuck?

I really doubt you need to make big explanations as to why he didn't kill himself. "He was taken unawares" or "he didn't have the nerve" fill the bill.

Now, I don't know the real story. Nothing debka is saying here makes me think they do either.

Saddam was discovered with a pistol in his lap, he had a suitcase with $750,000 (which he helpfully pointed out to his captors), and the cover of his hole was styrofoam, a little dirt and a carpet. This according to reports from the US army -- a rather more trustworthy news source than Debka.

Debka Analysis is almost absurd. Do you give a prisoner a gun and $75,000.00????

They made some good points, but the idea that he was a prisoner is just absurd.
