"The Bush administration has played down the fact that Saddam was at large. Today they will reverse that tactic and make hay of the capture."

What sense would it make to pump up capture until it happened. You appear to wish they would have and then played out disappointment.

Get real. You wouldn't pump up your family with promises of an unknown factor. For the last week they have said they are getting closer. That was good and timely.

Saddam can be put on lie detectors, given sodium penothal, even tortured. Some truth will be squeezed out of him.

It does not excuse the lack of evidence for making the "imminent danger to America" case.

Huh? The case made by President Bush was precisely the opposite: That the danger, while not yet imminent, was of a nature that we could not wait until it became imminent:

Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike? If this threat is permitted to fully and suddenly emerge, all actions, all words, and all recriminations would come too late. Trusting in the sanity and restraint of Saddam Hussein is not a strategy, and it is not an option.

You can disagree with that position, as many do. But to say that Bush made an "imminent danger to America" case is not true. He made a "this is the sort of danger that should not be allowed to become imminent" case to America. And a majority of Americans agreed with that case.

The US made a mistake by pre-emptively attacking Iraq, with little support of our allies.

Yes, it would've been better to leave him in power so our "allies" could keep selling him weapons, pushing for the lifting of sanctions, excusing his mass murders, and denying his support for terrorism around the world. This has all been a major disaster. And now we've arrested the poor old guy. Sheesh!
