I suppose I can presume you also did not mean it when you wrote to me at the end of the post, "Have fun." I thought you were inviting me to have fun with your post. Elian Gonzales' father had been awarded child custody in court due process. The mother kidnapped the kid and placed his life in danger. Maybe the judge anticipated that. The mother died due to her own actions. Relatives and others then abducted the child. Reno liberated the child and returned him to his father. I happen to believe GWB would expect his staff to take similar action. Often in life all of us are confronted with seemingly difficult choices. Most of the difficult part can be eliminated by not worrying about taking heat for doing the right thing. The relatives' and demonstrators' wishes were irrelevant. Reno liberated, then returned an abducted child to his parent who was also his court-appointed guardian. That is a beautiful thing anywhere. I applaud Reno for it. I think most Cubans in Florida believe it was the right thing to do. The rest of the Latinos opinions about this are just that and they do not matter. GWB does not get Latino votes because Reno did the right thing. He gets them because he offers them the greatest hope.
