TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Inotera Memories Inc., a 50-50 joint venture between Taiwan's Nanya Technology Corp. and Infineon Technologies AG of Germany, plans to invest US$2.2 billion in the next three years, according to a Dow Jones report that cited a company statement.

Intero has begun to move equipment in to its plant and said it expects to start production in the second half of 2004, according to the report. The company then plans to list its shares in 2006, the report said.

Nanya and Infineon set up Inotera in 2002 to build a fabrication facility for processing 300-mm diameter wafers where it is expected to produce DRAMs for its parent companies.

At the end of the first phase of ramp-up, to be completed in the second half of next year, the plant should have a monthly capacity of 20,000 wafer starts. The completion of a second phase is anticipated in 2006, which would take monthly capacity to around 50,000 wafers, the report said.
