OT: Mark, one of the interesting facts from the history of medicine is that coronary artery disease was a rare finding in pre-industrialized times (and yes, autopsies have been done routinely in Europe since the Renaissance). So before you let soot from coal move to the back burner, consider this piece of shocking data.

Shocking because of the part about soot being more correlated with heart disease than respiratory illness.

As for Hg, you'll get a far higher dose eating certain types of fish than you will living downstream from a coal plant.
