People will get the level of ethics and rational priorities they vote for, it's that simple. We currently have a pork barrel-mad Congress and a President who has never vetoed a single spending bill ever sent to him. Not very conservative, but that's another story. Eventually America may reach the "coping" level that Europeans have with terrorism. ETA bombs didn't bring Spain to a halt; ditto the IRA and London. But as long as half of America believes that Saddam and Chirac are the main threats to their safety and prosperity, the situation won't change. We'll find out in 11 months, right?
