> The fact is that the US has been doing its best to destroy anyone and anything that stands in the way of absolute US military, economic and political dominance, and that strategy is a disaster for the US and for the world

What you miss is that the US is not going after just "anyone" - it is going after those "anyones" who have declared war on us, attacked us, and expressed an intent to destroy us and whatever else of Western Civilization they they can manage to get their hands on. We have declared that we are not going to wait with hands folded for the next 9/11, but will take the battle to the terrorists, the states that support them, and the swamps of tyranny and hopelessness that breed them.

You cannot see this because you cannot acknowledge the existence of the enemy except as a cipher named "Osama bin Laden" who thus becomes the sole legitimate target. Since (to you) there is no enemy, the last two years have been an exercise in the US roaring about blind-drunk with its own power, swinging at anything that moves. This view has little descriptive, and less predictive power, imo.

Our enemy is Islamism. It is a motivating ideology for much of the Islamic world, and it feeds off the despair and failure of the Arab states for the last 60 years. In the end, we cannot defeat it - only other Muslims can. But we can deny it victories, show up its battlefield and economic bankruptcy, and create case studies of free markets, rule of law and democracy improving the lives even of Arabs.
