The BPA is for a one-year period, with two one-year options that may be exercised by mutual agreement of Identix and PCPA. Additional terms of the BPA were not disclosed. Identix said that it has received an initial purchase order under the BPA valued in excess of $500,000 to begin supplying TouchPrint 3800XCH live scan systems, which incorporate the biometric industry's only full-hand scanner. Identix expects to ship and install the majority of the live scan systems in the Company's fiscal 2004 third quarter. According to PCPA Technology Coordinator Chris Braun, PCPA is also preliminarily contemplating the possibility of procuring additional biometric technology from Identix to help enable State-wide biometric data-sharing through Pennsylvania's integrated law enforcement networks. According to Braun, additional procurements under preliminary consideration by the PCPA include the potential procurement of Identix' Integrated Biometric Identification System (IBIS), for initial deployment in Philadelphia and Cumberland County of Identix' backend IBIS infrastructure to enable submission and transmission of mobile, rapid real-time identification from the field. Chairman of the Offender Identification Committee of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency Eric J. Radnovich said, "The use and deployment of Identix' industry-leading technology is a crucial element for keeping Pennsylvania's law enforcement programs on the cutting edge. Key to our selection of Identix was the Company's ability to provide a broad range of multi-biometric technologies that were able to exceed every one of our requirements and enable State-wide biometric data sharing. Integral to the development and the broad applicability and availability of our law enforcement networks is the ability to not only provide high-quality, rapid capture and transmission of biometric data, but also the ability to provide a robust, rapid and highly scaleable means to store and search this data. We look forward to fully integrating Identix technology into our networks and to further expanding the breadth of the world-leading technology tools we are able to offer our law enforcement officers throughout the State." Identix President & CEO Dr. Joseph J. Atick commented, "We are extremely proud to have been selected to play such an important role in Pennsylvania's state-wide law enforcement programs. The live scan BPA award, coming on top of our recent wins with the State of Colorado Sheriff's Office and Saudi Aramco, are further illustrations of our leadership in the biometrics industry and help Identix to continue to grow backlog. "Through their integrated enforcement network and the use and application of our latest live scan - and potentially our IBIS technology - the State of Pennsylvania remains at the forefront of technological adoption and is helping to pave the way for states across the Nation for the capture and data-mining biometric information for law enforcement purposes," Atick said. "One of the greatest benefits Pennsylvania's integrated network provides for law enforcement throughout the State is that the one-time entry of information enables the user to query a number of databases simultaneously. This cooperation not only makes identification and tracking of subjects easier and cost savings for officers and law enforcement agencies everywhere."
