scoot-

ps....Well #7 starts construction today!

the "total project sponsorship" is a great idea.
especially since you are able to do them so
inexpensively. it's good for the people of
moderate to ample means but it can be a good
incentive for us of lesser resources too.

i don't know if you're familiar with the dean
campaign's web structure... you'd have to be
closely following their website and weblogs to
see what they're doing... but they have a great
thing going that is a good model for what you're
doing too.

being a bottom-up model, the grassroots participants
have requested it themselves - not howard's campaign
managers...

there are comments sections that people continually
brainstorm with each other on -- (blogs). also, people are
continually setting up their own sub-sites and local
or mutual-interest sites, i.e., dykes for dean, okies for
dean, etc., etc., etc. -- they set fundraising goals and
solicit donations for their sub-groups and then turn
it over to the campaign. it's a way that the $10 and $20
donors can feel more empowered.

it would be neat to see CTH become interactive and use
a blog for brainstorming. really silly and stupid ideas
come out of it (also brilliance)... that's what
brainstorming does. for example, someone like JLA
will come on with derogatory comments and someone
else comes up with the idea of "feed the troll goal"
which means that for every derogatory post, everyone
will make a donation to the "feed the troll goal" -
even if it's only ten bucks... after a while, the
derogatory poster ends up being the fundraiser (ha ha).

that's just one small example of a stupid brainstorming
idea that ends up being brilliant.

if you go with the bottom-up management model you
have to trust the bottom line (people power) -- you
have to give up your own power and control of what
you thought your dream was -- but in return, you
unleash the power of the "network" of people power.
if you have a worthy vision (which you and yen definitely
possess) you can keep the "network" focused.

i'd really love to see the NNBM use this kind of
group effort with CTH. most of us can't afford to
sponsor a complete project, but it would give us
great satisfaction to see a "shared" NNBM plaque
on a "complete project".

NNBM already has our own blog (here on SI) so it would
be easy for us to brainstorm and help each other
set the goal, the timeline and the methods to fund
a "total project sponsorship" for Care To Help.

check your "network for good" proceeds, for the first
$50 contribution toward the "NNBM Well" from me and give
us an idea of what a "total project sponsorship" will
cost. we can do it!

run this idea by your webmaster too. let him know
that you want to be able to set up a blog or
message-board and a way for small groups of like-minded
people to unite and sponsor "total projects" for
the Care To Help non-profit efforts.

even people and kids with no financial means can
help by soliciting and helping with the web work,
communications, flyers, mailings, etc., etc., etc.

i think i may even be able to milk some small
donations out of my offspring and partner for
an idea like this. <g>

ok. i feel more empowered now. thanks. <g>

ps- lavar arrington just got a 60 million dollar contract
but he is not my offspring - don't get any silly ideas. <vbg>

hi scoot-

mclulu's is still here and very busy.
took a picture of it for you <s>.

we were to go out to coranados island
yesterday but we experienced the tail end
of a storm and it was very windy - i'd say
40 to 50 mph so we couldn't go out. this
morning i woke early and went out to the
malecon to take a picture of the sunrise.
i tried to get the sunrise, and waves spraying
against the rocks (it's still really windy)
and a pelicon diving, all at the same time.
i must have taken 12 shots and then just when
the sun was breaking over top of the mountains,
my batteries quit on me. <grrrrrr>

i was sure i had packed my battery charger
- but didn't (ng), so i'm going to have to
try and find someone who has one and who will
recharge my batteries. maybe a local real estate
office will do it.

have started another book - snow falling on cedars.
it's a novel based on historical facts and takes
place on san piedro island, north of puget sound.
tom read it first and can't get the characters out
of his mind even now.

hope you're getting lots of skiing in.

drink more tequila,

.... okay!
