The normal state is a normal distribution [more or less], with people centred around the peak of the bell curve. Perhaps for the past century, as labor unions flourished and a role was found for professional classes. But over the course of the millenia, this has hardly been the case. The normal state of humanity has been for a tiny minority of lords, aristocrats, priests, pirates and plunderers to control vastly disproportionate pieces of the pie.
